Keep track of inventory in Excel: Yes

1DCutX plans usage: Our part descriptions contain routing information that is used in the optimizer headings. We take the tally sheet format from the 1D_matrix tab and concatenate the length and column heading. We then do a merge cells operation to combine the text strings in each row. The end result is a very easy to use optimized cut planner with work instructions.
Additional benefits from 1DCutX: 1DCutX could very easily be adapted to be a closed loop MRP system. We are using a purchased order entry software that provides CSV output. This output is used to generate the bills of material and lineal requirements. 1DCutX provides the waste saving optimization of our lineal components.

Wyman Gordon Forgings. USA.

Industry: Aerospace
Company Size: 1000+ Employers
Cutting Material: Round Titanium and Steel bar stock.
Keep track of inventory in Excel: No
How often use 1DCutX: Several times per day.
Material waste before 1DCutX: 11-25%
Material waste with 1DCutX: 6-10%
Material savings per month: More than $10,000.
1DCutX plans usage: We need to create a new layout map each time because we feed our material in as a weight, not a size, which renders the cut map locations useless. This is to account for the variability in our material diameter from the vendor.
Additional benefits from 1DCutX: 1DCutX provides a repeatable process that any user can run in a mater of minutes as opposed to taking a specialist hours in the past.
Comments: The software is simple and ideal for an average Excel user. I would improve the layout maps so that they scaled to the number of cuts since material requiring dozens of cuts is often not displayed in full detail.
